School of Teachers Education (STE)

The School of Teachers’ Education, established, in the year 2014 (2006 E.C.), is a cornerstone of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Hawassa University.  We are dedicated to advancing teaching excellence through specialized training, graduate education, and professional development.

School of Teachers’ Education not only coordinates but also shares its rich experiences in the newly started education and training program, which has been currently designated as teachers' special capacity-building program aimed at capacitating secondary school teachers in their respective subject specialty areas as well as teaching profession.

Our School at a Glance 

Qualified and committed 17 academicians with various academic statutes (that is, to be specific the School contains one full-fledged Professor, one Associate Professor with PhD, three Assistant Professors with PhD, two Assistant Professors who are PhD candidates, and 10 instructors within the status of the lecturer level of whom seven of them are PhD candidates while the rest of them have an MA qualification.

School of Teachers Education (STE)

Our Mission

STE coordinates and delivers high-quality teacher education programs. We build capacity for secondary school teachers and university instructors, enhancing both subject-specific expertise and pedagogical skills across Ethiopia's education system.


Academic Excellence

Our school is powered by a team of 17 qualified and committed academic staff. This includes one full Professor, one Associate Professor, five Assistant Professors (three with PhDs, two as candidates), and ten Lecturers (seven of whom are PhD candidates). This depth of experience ensures our programs are grounded in both advanced research and practical classroom application.


Our Impact

Our graduates are key stakeholders, coordinators, and implementers of educational curriculum at all levels, both nationally and internationally. By providing essential pre-service and in-service training, STE plays a vital role in strengthening Ethiopia's teaching workforce and contributing to the pedagogical capacity of Hawassa University itself.

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (PGDT) and Higher Diploma Program (HDP) for the academic staff of Hawassa University.
